Requirements for Long Term or Work Visas
In addition to the general requirements listed above, the originals as well as 2 photocopies of the following documents (items 2-7) must be provided :
Two completed application forms and 3 recent passport photographs that can support biometric checks.
Your passport or travel document valid for at least 3 months after end of your trip. Other than Hongkong passport holders, please provide your Hongkong stay permit.
If you wish to take up any kind of employment in Germany, irrespective of the intended duration of your stay, please provide your work contract. If you wish to take up employment as a cook in Germany, please provide a proof for your minimum 3 year formal training including a successful examination or a proof of at least 6 years working experience as a cook.
If you wish to take up a training of longer than 3 months in Germany, please provide your training program and a letter of invitation from the German company.
If you wish to join your spouse presently residing in Germany, please provide your marriage certificate, a copy of the person’s residence permit and proof of means of subsitence. If a minor child wishes to join its parents to reside in Germany, please provide the birth certificate.
If you wish to get married in Germany, please provide a letter of invitation of your fiancé/fiancée stating the address where you want to reside together, a copy of the person’s residence permit/German passport and proof of means of subsistence.
If you wish to visit a relative or friend in Germany and you intend to stay for more than 90 days, please provide a letter of invitation and a copy of your relative's or friend's German residence permit (if applicable).
If you intend to stay in Germany for more than 12 months, you will be requested to provide a Certificate of No Criminal Conviction issued by the Hong Kong Police. This Consulate General will support your application for such a Certificate by issuing a request to the Hong Kong Police.
Please note that now a new German law is in effect which requires that any person wishing to join his/her spouse to reside in Germany should have attained a certain level of German language proficiency before he/she is issued with a visa. As of October 8th 2007, the minimum German language level required is at Level A1 under the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
